To install a deck you simply follow the following steps:1. Measure the area you wish to deck (length x width)
2. Contact us by phone or email and we will estimate what you need to construct the framework and the deck.
3. Accept the quote and sit back and wait while we take all the hassle of transporting the goods to your home or business
4. Clear the area to build the deck and cover with a membrane if it is over soil or grass.
5. Cover the area with a light amount of gravel to help stop the weeds from growing.
6. Build the outer framework to checking your levels regularly at the corners. If it is a raised deck add the support posts.
7. If you are using newall posts add them now, so they sit inside the framework but make sure you check they are level before fixing.
8. Place the internal joists into the frame making sure that the centres are no more than 400mm apart.
9. If you have cut any of the frame timbers you will need to paint the cut sections
10. You are now ready to start adding the boards, we recommend a small gap between the boards to allow for swelling and movement of the boards, this will always happen as timber is a natural product. If you are using a cordless drill or screwdriver make sure you have more than one battery!!!
11. Now the fun begins, add two screws to every board where there is a joist, you will use lots of screws for this but it will ensure that the decking stays fixed and does not lift.
12. Add any lighting as you fix the boards as you will not be able to route wiring easily after the deck is constructed.
13. Don’t worry if the boards are longer than the frame and overhang as you can cut them to length once fitted with a handheld circular saw.
14. Add endcoat to any cut ends
15. Fix deck rope or handrails using deck brackets to the newalls then add spindles or deck panels. By now you should be about finished and really proud of what you have achieved
16. Add chairs or outdoor bean bags, planters and ornaments then grab yourself a well deserved beer or glass of wine and enjoy your garden (weather permitting)
We also have pre sized deck kits that consist of framework, boards, screws and nails in the following sizes 3mtr x 3mtr, 3.6mtr x 3.6mtr, 4.2mtr x 4.2mtr and 4.8mtr x 4.8mtr. We do not include newals, handrails or spindles with these kits.
